Kroger:Day of Action
When: Monday, February 25, 2019
Where: Kroger and Kroger-owned grocery stores across the United States.
Following the release of their “Organic For All” study, Friends of the Earth’s Pesticides and Pollinators campaign took to Twitter to urge partner coalitions and consumers across the country to participate in a National action to tell Kroger and it’s subsidiary and affiliate grocery stores to stop selling foods grown with toxic pesticides. In addition to raising consumer awareness by handing out flyers on the streets outside of these grocery locations, member of Friends of the Earth, Beyond Pesticides, Endangered Species Coalition, and thousands of consumers nationwide also hand-delivered letters to Kroger store managers urging them to step up, be a leader, and commit to keeping our families and environment safe from toxic pesticides.

In addition to designing the entire social media toolkit, I also photographed the action on February 25, 2019. Despite freezing cold and wind gusts that topped 20 mph, the members of Friend’s of the Earth and our partner coalitions stood outside for nearly an hour and handed out 50 flyers to pedestrians on the streets. Many consumers were genuinely interested and took time out of their limited lunch hour to talk more about the toxins that are lurking in their food.

While the Flyers and letters specifically list “Kroger” as the recipient of demands for good clean food, The Kroger family of grocers encompasses nearly 14 other stores, including Harris Teeter, Ralphs, Foods Co., and Fred Meyer.
